Saudi Film Festival Celebrates Excellence In Cinema With Prestigious Awards

The 10th Saudi Film Festival culminated in a dazzling ceremony on its final night, where the industry's finest gathered at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, known as Ithra, to celebrate cinematic achievements. The prestigious event, spanning eight days, not only showcased an impressive array of films but also facilitated masterclasses, workshops, book signings, and invaluable networking opportunities for attendees. Highlighting the evening were the Golden Palm awards, a testament to the creative and technical brilliance within the film sector.

This year's festival saw an extensive selection of films, with 76 screenings taking place throughout the event. A competitive spirit animated the festival as 53 of these films vied for a total of 36 awards across various categories. Among the standout winners was the 2024 wildlife documentary "Horizon," which emerged victorious in its category. This acclaimed production is a collaborative effort between the Konoz Initiative, the Ministry of Media's Center for Government Communication, and the National Center for Wildlife, demonstrating a successful partnership in bringing compelling content to the forefront.

Ithra's contribution to the film landscape was notably recognized through the film "Hajjan." This story, centered around the life of a young camel rider, captivated the jury and audience alike, securing awards for best music, best actor for the young talent Omar Alatawi, and best actress for Tulin Essam. In addition, "Hajjan" was honored with the Jury Golden Palm, marking a significant achievement for the film and its creators.

Another highlight of the festival was the documentary "Underground," which delves into the music scene in Saudi Arabia. Premiered at the opening ceremony on May 2, the film garnered significant attention and praise, making it one of the big winners of the night.
