Saudi Film Confex Showcases Remarkable Growth In Kingdom's Cinema Sector

The Saudi Film Confex was initiated to address the rapid growth in Saudi Arabia's film industry, according to Film Commission CEO Abdullah Al-Qahtani. He highlighted the need for a platform that brings together filmmakers, decision-makers, and training bodies to tackle challenges and explore opportunities. This initiative aligns with Vision 2030 and aims to connect investors with local filmmakers.

Al-Qahtani shared impressive statistics about the Kingdom's box office development. Since 2018, when there were no cinemas, ticket sales have reached 90 million, generating nearly SAR5 billion in revenue. From 2020 to the end of 2024, ticket sales grew from six million to 17 million. During this period, revenues increased by 90%, rising from SAR445 million to SAR845 million.

Saudi Film Confex Highlights Cinema Growth

Saudi films have significantly contributed to this growth, with sales exceeding SAR120 million, up from SAR13 million in 2020. This surge underscores strong confidence in the Saudi market. The Film Commission plays a crucial role in fostering connections between investors and local filmmakers, further boosting the industry's expansion.

Confex Highlights

This year's confex is notable for its scale and diverse program under the theme "A Gathering That Transforms the Scene." It features participation from 135 exhibitors representing 35 countries. More than 60 experts are speaking on various topics, and there are over 50 workshops designed to inspire attendees.

The confex addresses essential subjects such as intellectual property rights, artificial intelligence, distribution challenges, production issues, insurance matters, and financing options. These discussions aim to equip participants with valuable insights into navigating the film industry landscape effectively.

Al-Qahtani concluded that this third edition of the event reaffirms Saudi Arabia's leadership in the Middle East's film sector. The confex serves as a testament to the Kingdom's commitment to advancing its film industry and supporting creative talents within the region.
