Saudi Female Students Shine With Wins At European Mathematical Olympiad

Riyadh, SPA – In a recent showcase of academic excellence on the international stage, Saudi Arabia's young talents, Fatima Buali from Al-Ahsa City and Retaj Al-Saleh from the Eastern Region, have brought pride to their nation at the 2024 European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). The competition, which took place in Georgia from April 11 to 17, saw Buali winning a bronze medal and Al-Saleh receiving an honorable mention. Their participation and success in EGMO highlight the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to nurturing gifted students and promoting their talents globally.

The selection of these bright students for EGMO was the result of a rigorous process involving stringent tests and comprehensive training. This preparatory phase was meticulously supervised by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education. Mawhiba's dedicated efforts in preparing Saudi teams for such prestigious competitions underscore its role in fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation among young Saudis.

Saudi Students Win at EGMO

This year's edition of EGMO witnessed the participation of 212 students from 54 countries, demonstrating the event's global appeal and competitive nature. Saudi Arabia's involvement in this year's Olympiad marks its 12th participation, reflecting a long-standing commitment to engaging with the international academic community. Over these years, Saudi students have achieved remarkable success, securing two gold medals, six silver medals, thirteen bronze medals, and seven honorable mentions in total.

The achievements of Saudi students at international competitions like EGMO are not just a testament to their hard work and dedication but also reflect the effective collaboration between Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education. Through various advanced training courses, these institutions aim to equip Saudi teams with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in Olympiads and similar competitions.
