Saudi Fashion Commission And Kering Group Collaborate To Enhance Sustainability In The Fashion Industry
The Saudi Fashion Commission has entered into a significant collaboration with Kering, a leading French luxury fashion group, to promote sustainable practices in the fashion industry. This partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader objectives for the sector. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in Riyadh by Burak Cakmak, CEO of the Saudi Fashion Commission, and Marie-Claire Daveu, Kering's Chief Sustainability and Institutional Affairs Officer.
The MoU signifies the start of a strategic partnership focusing on several areas of mutual interest. A key initiative is the establishment of the Kering Generation Awards, which will honour outstanding sustainable fashion businesses. This includes setting award criteria, selecting participants, and supporting award recipients' development. Additionally, a Regional Sustainability Index will be created to guide fashion enterprises in adopting sustainable practices.

This collaboration also involves publishing joint reports on achievements and conducting awareness sessions. These efforts will align with major events in Saudi Arabia's annual fashion calendar. By leveraging Kering’s expertise, both parties aim to enhance customer engagement and explore innovative approaches to sustainable materials that could become industry standards.
Kering's role as a leader in sustainable luxury fashion brings valuable experience to this partnership. Their involvement reinforces the potential for meaningful change within the region’s fashion landscape. The Saudi Fashion Commission is committed to advancing sustainability throughout the fashion value chain.
Cakmak expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Kering, stating: "We are delighted to partner with Kering, whose commitment to sustainability aligns with our mission to foster a forward-thinking, eco-conscious fashion ecosystem in Saudi Arabia. Together, we aim to set new standards for sustainability and innovation in the region."
Daveu added: "This MoU with the Saudi Fashion Commission presents a remarkable opportunity for us to support the growth of sustainable fashion practices in the Kingdom. We look forward to collaborating on initiatives that will contribute to a more sustainable future for the fashion industry."
Future Prospects
The agreement takes effect immediately and is valid for one year initially, with an option for automatic renewal if both parties agree. This partnership reflects their shared vision of leading the region towards a more responsible and sustainable fashion industry.
