Saudi Fashion Commission Showcases Cultural Heritage And Creative Talent At Expo 2025 Osaka
The Saudi Fashion Commission made a significant impact at Expo 2025 Osaka, showcasing its dedication to education, heritage, and design. The event featured a panel discussion and an exhibition at the Saudi Pavilion. This highlighted the commission's mission to preserve cultural identity while nurturing future Saudi designers.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore ten curated design pieces from two of the commission's key initiatives. One initiative, "Saudi Heritage Revival," was developed with Swarovski. It challenged 26 designers to reimagine Saudi heritage through sustainable fashion using Swarovski's crystals. The winner earned a training residency at Dar Al Hanouf, while the top five joined an international academic competition by Swarovski.

The panel discussion emphasized cultural exchange's importance in design. Okuda noted shared values between Saudi and Japanese design, such as craftsmanship respect and meaningful creation. CEO Burak Cakmak stated, "Bringing Saudi creativity to the forefront is about fostering meaningful exchange. Saudi designers are sharing stories deeply rooted in heritage while engaging with a global audience that seeks innovation, authenticity, and cultural relevance."
Another initiative, "Traditional Handcrafts Revival in Saudi Fashion," took place in early 2025. It involved 25 participants in workshops on Saudi architecture, handcrafts, and traditional garments. Designers created pieces inspired by local heritage in contemporary formats. These designs debuted at the Saudi Cup and are now displayed internationally in Osaka.
The commission’s Education and Talent Development track aims to grow local expertise and preserve traditional crafts knowledge. It also seeks to create sustainable career paths for young Saudi designers. Rather than viewing fashion solely as a commercial product, the commission sees it as a cultural medium encompassing history, craftsmanship, and innovation.
Throughout the day at Expo 2025 Osaka, guests could view showcased pieces and interact with commission members. The garments were more than clothing; each told a personal story linking modern Saudi design with regional culture's deep roots.
Vision 2030 Commitment
The presence of the Saudi Fashion Commission at Expo 2025 underscores its commitment to advancing creative industries as part of Vision 2030. Through education, mentorship, and international engagement, the commission is shaping a fashion ecosystem that is proudly Saudi yet globally relevant and enduring.
