Saudi Fabric Of The Future Competition Celebrates Winners In Sustainable Textile Innovation

The Saudi Fabric of the Future: Sustainability, Innovation & Investment competition recently concluded at Misk City in Riyadh. Organised by the Fashion Commission, Collateral Good, IE University, Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City (Misk City), Entrepreneurs’ Community by Misk, and Proaltus Capital Partners, the event celebrated advancements in textile innovation. It brought together policymakers, investors, academics, brands, and entrepreneurs to discuss sustainable materials and advanced textile technologies.

During the forum, discussions highlighted climate-positive supply chains and venture investment's role in driving impactful solutions. A standout moment was the debut of garments made from Red Sea seaweed. This innovative textile was developed through collaboration between the Fashion Commission, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), and PYRATEX. The project exemplifies Saudi Arabia's commitment to eco-conscious fashion.

Winners Announced for Saudi Fabric Competition

The startup pitch contest at the forum showcased exceptional talent and innovation. Three winners were honoured: Sci-Lume Labs for Best Sustainable Innovation, Texula for Best Business Model, and Faircraft for Best Pitch. Each winner received a comprehensive package to accelerate their growth. This included an Immersion Day at HUGO BOSS Headquarters in Metzingen and strategic mentoring from IE University's Fashion Department & Entrepreneurship Centre.

Additionally, winners will benefit from a full day of strategic mentoring with Collateral Good on IP, scaling, fundraising, and business development. They will also gain exclusive membership in the Entrepreneurs Community by Misk. This membership provides access to mentorship, investors, ecosystem leaders, media exposure, tailored business support, and potential investment opportunities.

Burak Cakmak, CEO of the Fashion Commission, emphasized their dedication to establishing Saudi Arabia as a hub for sustainable innovation in global fashion. "Our role is to act as a catalyst," said Cakmak. "By bringing together the right ideas, capabilities, and collaborations, we are laying the groundwork for a fashion ecosystem that is future-ready."

Michael Kleindl from Collateral Good expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Saudi Arabia towards a circular textile system. "Today’s event represents a remarkable starting point in our partnership with Saudi Arabia," he stated. The commission continues to foster a sustainable fashion industry through curated keynotes and networking sessions.

Empowering Future Innovators

The Fashion Commission leverages Misk City as a creativity hub to empower next-generation innovators. By facilitating collaborations between local talent and global expertise and investment opportunities across nonprofit and private sectors are created. This approach aims to shape a forward-looking fashion ecosystem rooted in sustainability.

The event underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to eco-friendly fashion through scientific research and responsible resource use. By integrating advanced sustainable textile manufacturing techniques with fully traceable fibers like those made from seaweed, the Kingdom is setting new standards in eco-conscious fashion.
