Saudi Arabia And Djibouti Boost Maritime Links For East African Trade

Three Saudi entities are intensifying efforts to establish maritime shipping lanes between Saudi Arabia and Djibouti. This initiative aims to leverage the benefits of Saudi Logistics City in Djibouti's free zone. Established through a June agreement, this city will enable Saudi exports to reach 500 million consumers in East Africa. It will feature permanent warehouses, logistics services, and administrative facilities, catering to all storage needs for investors and traders.

The Federation of Saudi Chambers, Jazan’s Chamber of Commerce, and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services recently held a workshop. The event focused on operationalizing shipping routes between Jazan and Djibouti. Attendees included Jazan Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ahmed Abu Hadi, representatives from various government bodies, and local and international companies.

Boosting Saudi-Djibouti Maritime Trade

Discussions at the workshop covered activating air and maritime shipping lines, challenges faced by Saudi investors in the Horn of Africa, investment opportunities, and available incentives. Recommendations were made to enhance air and maritime navigation between the Kingdom and Djibouti. These included signing investor protection agreements and strengthening communication between city officials, exporters, and importers.

The Saudi Ports Authority collaborates with top global shipping companies for services between the Kingdom and Djibouti. This partnership has resulted in 20,000 containers reaching the Port of Djibouti this year alone.

Efforts are also underway to identify the best products for export to and import from African markets. Relevant entities will study these products to maximize trade benefits.

The establishment of Saudi Logistics City is expected to significantly boost trade activities. It will provide comprehensive logistics solutions, including permanent warehouses and administrative facilities.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance trade relations between Saudi Arabia and East African markets. The focus is on creating efficient shipping routes that benefit both regions economically.

The workshop highlighted various challenges faced by investors from the Kingdom in African countries. Addressing these challenges is crucial for successful trade operations.

By improving air and maritime navigation, the Kingdom aims to facilitate smoother trade flows with Djibouti. This will help in achieving economic growth objectives for both regions.

The collaboration between government bodies and private entities underscores the importance of this initiative. It reflects a commitment to enhancing trade infrastructure and logistics capabilities.

Overall, these efforts aim to create a robust trade network that supports economic development in both Saudi Arabia and East Africa.
