Saudi Program Initiates Key Development Projects In Taiz, Yemen

Under the leadership of Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY) has initiated several key development projects in Taiz Governorate. These initiatives include a cancer centre, power plant, technical institute, rural hospital, and Al-Wahda Joint School.

Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, Supervisor General of SDRPY, stated that these projects are launched under directives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. He highlighted that this support signifies the strong ties between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and aims to bring sustainable development and stability to Yemen.

Vital Projects Launched in Taiz

The Kingdom's support for Yemeni development dates back to the 1970s. This commitment was solidified with the establishment of SDRPY in 2018, continuing Saudi Arabia's historic assistance trajectory. The Kingdom has provided over $26 billion in aid to Yemen historically.

From 2012 to 2023, Saudi Arabia's direct economic and development support reached approximately $11.9 billion. This includes deposits to Yemen's Central Bank, grants for oil derivatives, and a recent $1.2 billion budget support for the Yemeni government.

The SDRPY has undertaken various projects in Taiz Governorate. These include rehabilitating Hayjah al-Abd road and constructing faculties for Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing. Additionally, they have built Kashar School and implemented programs to enhance health, education, and energy services using solar technologies.

Al-Jaber emphasized that these projects are part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure and basic services across Yemen. The initiatives also aim to create job opportunities by coordinating with the Yemeni government, local authorities, and civil society organizations.

Comprehensive Development Efforts

The SDRPY has contributed significantly across eight primary sectors: education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, government capabilities development, and various other programs throughout Yemeni governorates.

These efforts include improving water transportation efficiency by providing water tankers and supporting emergency medical cases with fully equipped ambulances. The program also focuses on enhancing essential services in multiple districts using solar energy technologies.

This package of vital development projects is part of Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Yemen. The aim is to achieve lasting stability and comprehensive development across all Yemeni governorates.

The Kingdom's continuous support reflects its dedication to fostering deep-rooted relations with Yemen. By investing directly in various development fields, Saudi Arabia seeks to elevate the daily lives of Yemeni people through improved infrastructure and service efficiency.

These initiatives by SDRPY demonstrate a rapid response to immediate needs while laying a foundation for sustainable growth in Yemen. The collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Yemen aims at achieving long-term stability and prosperity for both nations.
