Saudi Delegation Champions Sustainable Digital Future At WSIS+20 Summit
The Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), Dr. Mohammed Altamimi, led the Saudi delegation at the World Summit on the Information Society "WSIS+20" in Geneva, Switzerland. The event saw participation from Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Abdulmohsen Majed Bin Khothaila, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, and senior officials from various governmental and private entities.
Dr. Altamimi underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering collaboration and enabling pathways to implement "WSIS+20" outcomes. He stressed that achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through collective efforts is essential for a sustainable digital future for all. Highlighting sustainability as a top priority, he noted that Saudi Arabia achieved 96% of the ITU's "Connect 2030" program goals in 2022.

Saudi Arabia's initiatives have significantly supported innovation in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. Efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote collaboration among ITU members and stakeholders were pivotal in reaching these milestones. Dr. Altamimi emphasized that these achievements reflect the Kingdom's dedication to advancing digital infrastructure and services.
Exploring New Horizons through Space Technologies
Dr. Altamimi also highlighted Saudi Arabia's aspirations to explore new horizons through space technologies. He announced that the Kingdom will host the first Space Debris Conference in collaboration with the ITU and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). This conference aims to raise international awareness about space debris challenges and create a global platform to address this critical issue.
WSIS+20: A Platform for International Collaboration
"WSIS+20" is an annual forum organized by the ITU to showcase progress in its projects and outcomes while promoting international collaboration. This year's edition marks 20 years of global efforts in harnessing technology for sustainable development and bridging the digital divide.
