Saudi Conjoined Twins Yara And Lara Remain Stable Four Days After Successful Separation Surgery

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, an advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), has confirmed that conjoined twins Yara and Lara are in stable condition. This update comes four days after their separation surgery at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh. The procedure was part of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, which Dr. Al Rabeeah leads.

The twins were joined at several critical points, including the lower abdomen, pelvis, parts of the intestines, urinary and reproductive systems, and shared a pelvic bone. The complex surgery to separate them took place on July 17 and lasted 12 and a half hours. It was completed in nine phases by a team of 38 specialists from various medical fields.

Yara and Lara Stable After Surgery

Dr. Al Rabeeah informed the Saudi Press Agency that all vital signs of the twins have returned to normal. They remain on artificial respiration in the intensive care unit as they recover. Their intestinal functions have started to resume, and nutrition will be gradually introduced through a nasogastric tube.

The surgical wounds are healing well, according to Dr. Al Rabeeah, who expressed optimism about discontinuing artificial respiration within four days. The twins are under close observation and are receiving antibiotics to prevent any infections during their recovery period.

The operation involved a diverse team of experts, including consultants in anesthesia, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology, plastic surgery, orthopedics, as well as nursing and technical staff. This multidisciplinary approach was crucial for the success of such a complicated procedure.

Dr. Al Rabeeah stated: "All the twins' vital signs have returned to normal, and they remain on artificial respiration in the intensive care unit." His statement highlights the careful monitoring and comprehensive care being provided to ensure a smooth recovery for Yara and Lara.

The successful separation of Yara and Lara marks another achievement for the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program. The program continues to provide hope for families facing similar challenges worldwide through its expertise and dedication.
