Saudi-British Business Council Eyes Civil Aviation Sector For Enhanced Investment And Cooperation

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) recently held a roundtable meeting in London with the Saudi British Joint Business Council (SBJBC) to discuss investment opportunities and cooperation in the civil aviation sector. The event was led by GACA President Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej and attended by Dr. Rannia Leontaridi, director general of the Aviation, Maritime, and Security Group at the British Ministry of Transport, along with Jennie Gubbins, head of the British delegation in the council.

During his speech, Al-Duailej highlighted the robust commercial and investment partnership between Saudi Arabia and the UK. He noted that Saudi exports to the UK had reached SAR 1.36 billion by Q1 2024, reflecting strong economic ties. He also mentioned that Saudi Arabia's strategic location connects three continents, which is vital for enhancing trade relations with the UK.

Boosting Saudi-British Aviation Ties

The meeting aimed to improve investment relations between both countries, focusing on enabling the private sector to benefit from opportunities in Saudi Arabia and the UK. The discussion included vice presidents, CEOs, officials, and experts in aviation who explored ways to enhance economic and investment ties.

GACA emphasized the UK's strategic importance as a key source in the European market and noted a significant increase in passenger traffic between Saudi Arabia and the UK. The Authority is committed to developing civil aviation infrastructure to strengthen these trade relations further.

GACA also discussed innovative solutions in aviation, such as advanced air mobility and air traffic management systems. These initiatives integrate artificial intelligence and digital technologies to improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall flying experience.

The delegation provided an overview of the National Aviation Strategy, highlighting its achievements in enhancing air connectivity and technology use. They also discussed digital transformation initiatives for advanced air mobility and environmental sustainability within civil aviation activities.

Framework Agreement for Airport Capacity Enhancement

The Saudi Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) signed a framework agreement with the British National Air Traffic Services (NATS) to enhance airport capacity. This agreement aims to improve operational efficiency at airports through collaboration between both nations.

Additionally, Al-Duailej met with Dr. Rannia Leontaridi to review cooperation efforts in civil aviation. He also held meetings with CEOs from NATS and Gulfstream alongside representatives from Saudi Arabia's aviation sector.

Investment Incentives in Saudi Aviation Sector

The delegation briefed participants on various aspects of the Saudi airport sector, including its implementation mechanisms, investment volumes, and business opportunities. They highlighted several incentives available for investments within Saudi Arabia's aviation sector.

This roundtable meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to fostering stronger economic ties through enhanced cooperation in civil aviation. By exploring new avenues for investment and technological advancements, they aim to create mutually beneficial opportunities for growth.
