Saudi Arabia And Britain Enhance Humanitarian Efforts In Second Strategic Aid Dialogue

The high-level session of the second Strategic Aid Dialogue on International Development and Humanitarian Aid between Saudi Arabia and Britain was held today at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) in Riyadh. This pivotal meeting brought together key figures to discuss strategic priorities, review progress since their last dialogue, and unveil new joint initiatives aimed at bolstering humanitarian efforts globally.

Notable attendees included Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of KSrelief, Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Kingdom, Abdulmohsen bin Saad Al-Khalaf, Assistant Minister of Finance for Macro-Fiscal Policies and International Relations, and Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development. The session also saw participation from Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, Saudi Ambassador to Yemen and General Supervisor of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), alongside representatives from various Saudi ministries and funds.

Advancing Saudi-British Aid Efforts

The British delegation was led by Andrew Mitchell, British Minister of State for Development and African Affairs, with Neil Crompton, British Ambassador to the Kingdom, also in attendance. During his address, Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted the significant strides made since their inaugural meeting in March 2023. He outlined the achievements within three main areas: technical exchange, joint program implementation, and diplomatic initiatives.

Dr. Al Rabeeah shared success stories such as the monitoring and evaluation workshop in Riyadh and a joint project that boosted food security in Somalia with funding increasing from $4 million to $22 million. He also pointed out efforts to tackle humanitarian challenges beyond financial aid, including initiatives like the plan to rescue the "Safer" storage tanker and facilitating peace talks in Sudan.

Looking ahead, Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed optimism about future collaborations in countries like Sudan, Yemen, and with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He emphasized the potential for health interventions, education infrastructure development, and livelihood programs. Furthermore, he underscored the commitment to innovation and leveraging new technologies to improve aid delivery efficiency.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Al Rabeeah reaffirmed both nations' dedication to their established courses of action, solidifying the Saudi-British partnership as a key player in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity. The session also reviewed the progress achieved within the partnership on development and humanitarian aid since March 2023. Discussions covered a range of topics including urgent support for affected countries, access to humanitarian and development work, the situation in Sudan, support for Ukraine, and efforts towards Yemen's recovery and reconstruction.
