Meet The 10 Saudi Olympians Ready To Make History In Paris This Summer

The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced that 10 athletes will represent the Kingdom at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris from July 26 to August 11. These athletes will compete in various events, show jumping, taekwondo, athletics, and swimming.

Leading the team is Dunya Abu Taleb, a taekwondo athlete who has directly qualified for the Olympics through the Asian qualifying event. This marks the first time a Saudi female athlete has secured direct qualification to the Olympic Games, highlighting Abu Taleb's talent and Saudi Arabia's commitment to promoting sports.

The Saudi show jumping team includes Ramzi Al Duhami, Abdullah Al Sharbatly, Khaled Al Mobty, and Abdulrahman Al Rajhi. They qualified for the Olympics by topping their group at the Doha International Jumping Competition last year. This achievement marks their return to the Olympic stage since they last competed in London 2012, where they won a bronze medal.

In athletics, Mohammed Tolo will make his Olympic debut in shot put after setting an Asian record during the Madrid Athletics meet last June. His teammate Hussein Al Hizam will also make his first Olympic appearance in pole vaulting, having achieved 1252 points in the world ranking for the event.

Mashael Al Ayed, a 17-year-old swimmer, will be the first Saudi female athlete to compete in an Olympic swimming event. She received a wild card invitation to race in the 200m freestyle. Additionally, sprinter Hibah Mohammed has been granted a wild card by World Athletics to participate in the women's 100m event.

Zaid Al Sarraj, at just 16 years old, will be the youngest Saudi athlete competing in Paris. He received a wild card entry for the 100m sprint event. This highlights Saudi Arabia's investment in nurturing young talent within its sports ecosystem.

The participation of these athletes underscores Saudi Arabia's efforts to develop its sports infrastructure and culture of excellence. The Kingdom has invested significantly in state-of-the-art facilities and support systems to empower its athletes to achieve international success.

As these pioneering athletes prepare for Paris, they aim to inspire future generations of Saudis to pursue their athletic dreams. The Kingdom's strides in sports development have set a strong foundation for its athletes to thrive on global platforms.

The Saudi delegation's presence at the Paris Olympics is expected to capture global attention and admiration. Their participation not only showcases their individual talents but also reflects Saudi Arabia's growing influence as a rising sports powerhouse on the international stage.
