Saudi Aramco President Eng. Amin H. Nasser Calls For New Global Energy Model At CERAWeek 2025
Saudi Aramco's President and CEO, Eng. Amin H. Nasser, has urged a significant change in the global energy transition strategy. He advocates for a balanced approach that supports both traditional and renewable energy sources while focusing on climate objectives. Speaking at the CERAWeek 2025 conference in Houston, Texas, Nasser criticised the current strategy of prioritising renewables and imposing strict regulations on traditional energy as ineffective.
Nasser highlighted that if the present strategy persists, an additional $6 to $8 trillion investment will be required annually. He warned that without change, the future could be grim. "The biggest illusion about the energy transition is the belief that traditional energy can be phased out overnight," Nasser stated. "Traditional sources still supply over 80% of the energy in the United States, about 90% in China, and more than 70% in the European Union."

Nasser emphasised that new energy sources are not replacing traditional ones but rather complementing them. He noted that these new sources cannot even meet the growing demand for energy. "Effective traditional energy sources are being discarded in irrational ways," he said. "This is a fast track to dystopia—a future marked by crisis and hardship."
CERAWeek is an annual event where leaders from the energy sector, government officials, and industry executives gather to discuss key topics like energy security, supply, climate policy, technology, and sustainability. This year's theme is "Moving Ahead: Energy Strategies for a Complex World." The conference has attracted over 10,000 participants from more than 2,050 companies across 80 countries.
The event features over 1,400 expert speakers who share insights on various aspects of the energy sector. The conference serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and strategies to address complex global challenges related to energy.
Nasser's call for a balanced approach underscores the need for policies that support both traditional and renewable energies. His remarks highlight the importance of considering all available resources to ensure a stable and sustainable energy future.
