Saudi Aramco Launches Regional Centre For Sustainable Fishery Development On Abu Ali Island
Saudi Aramco has inaugurated a new regional centre for sustainable fishery development in the Arabian Gulf. This initiative, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, aims to boost economic growth and support local fishermen. The centre will focus on enhancing production practices and cultivating fish that can compete globally.
The facility is located on Abu Ali Island in Jubail, along the Arabian Gulf coast. It includes a fish hatchery designed to replenish local fish species whose populations have declined due to overfishing. This effort is part of Saudi Aramco's broader strategy to protect marine life in the region.

The hatchery employs cutting-edge aquaculture technologies to maintain fish health. It also uses advanced water recycling methods to improve efficiency and align with Saudi Aramco's circular economy goals. These technologies ensure that the entire fish life cycle is managed within designated tanks, from egg production to juvenile release.
The centre's operations include rearing larvae using plankton produced on-site. Once mature, juvenile fish are released back into the Arabian Gulf. This process helps restore fish populations and supports the sustainability of marine ecosystems.
Saudi Aramco's efforts are complemented by its mangrove plantation initiative, which has seen over 43 million trees planted so far. Mangrove forests serve as crucial nursery habitats for young fish released into the Gulf, further aiding marine ecosystem sustainability.
This project underscores Saudi Aramco's commitment to citizenship initiatives and environmental stewardship. By investing in sustainable practices, the company aims to build expertise and adopt best practices that benefit both local communities and global markets.
The collaboration with government ministries highlights a shared vision for sustainable development in the region. Through these efforts, Saudi Aramco seeks to enhance local livelihoods while contributing to global environmental goals.
