Saudi Arabia's NEOM To Build World’s Largest Green Hydrogen Production Facility

Saudi Arabia's ambitious NEOM project is set to produce its first green hydrogen this year. NEOM has hit a significant milestone by achieving a financial close of $8.4bn, marking a crucial step towards the realisation of the world's largest green hydrogen production facility. According to Wesam Alghamdi, CEO of Neom Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), the facility aims to commence production this year, setting a target to produce 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily by the end of 2026.

The Hydrogen Innovation Development Centre (HIDC) is poised to produce eight tonnes of green hydrogen per day upon its inauguration. This centre, featuring a 20-megawatt hydrogen electrolyser unit, will focus on research and development in collaboration with Enowa, a NEOM subsidiary dedicated to advancing water and electricity solutions.

NEOM's project has received substantial backing, with $6.1bn funded by 23 local, regional, and international banks and financial institutions, totaling a financial closure of $8.4bn.

The produced green hydrogen will be transformed into 1.2 million tonnes of ammonia annually under a 30-year agreement with air products. Powered by four gigawatts of electricity from wind and solar sources, the project is expected to save five million tonnes of carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Neom Announces Partnership With Rajasthan Royals

Beyond its technological and environmental ambitions, NEOM is also extending its influence into the realm of sports by becoming the principal partner of the Rajasthan Royals, an esteemed team in India's premier T20 cricket league. Through this partnership, effective for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, NEOM aims to raise global awareness of its brand and foster a healthy and physically active society. The collaboration follows a successful pilot program in 2023 and underscores NEOM's dedication to promoting cricket, including efforts to nurture young Saudi talent and enhance cricket infrastructure in alignment with national sports development objectives.

This blend of groundbreaking hydrogen production technology and strategic sports partnerships underscores NEOM's multifaceted approach to innovation, sustainability, and community engagement. As the project progresses, it stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia's commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions and fostering global partnerships across diverse sectors.
