Saudi Arabia's Ecotourism Flourishes With Al-Urumah Season Initiatives Promoting Sustainability
Al-Urumah Season, located in the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve and King Khalid Royal Reserve, has become a leading ecotourism initiative. It has evolved from a tourist attraction into a significant national journey, showcasing environmental beauty and human passion. Over four seasons, it has drawn more than one million ecotourists, highlighting its growing popularity.
The first season of Al-Urumah attracted about 52,000 visitors. This number increased to around 230,000 in the second season. By the third season, with eight service providers involved, attendance surpassed 300,000. The fourth season saw over 400,000 visitors. This growth reflects effective strategic planning and infrastructure development that engaged both the private sector and local communities.

During Al-Urumah Season, the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve Development Authority offers a wide range of activities across both royal reserves. Visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, camel riding, cycling, stargazing, and other outdoor pursuits. To accommodate guests, 358 eco-units have been established.
The authority also conducts training workshops for service providers. These workshops focus on ecotourism principles, responsible recreation, and wildlife interaction. They emphasize the critical role of service providers in delivering successful tourism experiences.
Al-Urumah Season has emerged as an integrated model for sustainable ecotourism. The authority has developed a blend of ecotourism, entertainment, and nature conservation. This aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goals for economic diversification and community empowerment.
Today, Al-Urumah symbolizes a national message from nature. It is paving the way for a sustainable future by integrating environmental appreciation with tourism development.
