Saudi Arabia Celebrates World Meteorological Day 2025: A Commitment To Early Warning Systems And Climate Preparedness
Saudi Arabia participated in the global celebration of World Meteorological Day 2025, aligning with the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) initiative to establish early warning systems worldwide by 2027. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) represented Saudi Arabia in this annual event on March 23, themed "Closing the Early Warning Gap Together."
The CEO of the NCM, Ayman Ghulam, highlighted the importance of this celebration amid increasing extreme weather events due to rapid climate changes. He stressed the need for improved monitoring and warning systems to enhance preparedness. Ghulam emphasized Saudi Arabia's dedication to advancing its national weather monitoring infrastructure using cutting-edge technologies.

Saudi Arabia was among the first in its region to implement a comprehensive automated early warning system, initiated by the NCM 14 years ago. This pioneering system in the Arab world has issued thousands of warnings, significantly reducing harm from severe weather. The center has made notable progress by integrating with relevant agencies and improving forecast accuracy.
The Kingdom's efforts are aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 goals, focusing on safeguarding lives and property while promoting sustainable development. These initiatives also support public awareness about weather and climate risks, reinforcing community resilience against natural disasters.
By engaging in this global event, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations' "Early Warnings for All" initiative. This program aims to ensure effective warning systems protect every individual worldwide by 2027. The Kingdom is dedicated to its role in addressing climate change both regionally and internationally.
Saudi Arabia continues to support global efforts towards a safer and more sustainable future. The Kingdom invests in enhancing meteorological capabilities to serve both people and the environment effectively.
Ayman Ghulam noted that these advancements align with global objectives while emphasizing Saudi Arabia's proactive stance in climate change mitigation. The Kingdom remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering international collaboration for environmental sustainability.
