Saudi Arabia Braces For Thunderstorms And Light Snow In Several Regions
The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather alert forecasting moderate to heavy thunderstorms that are expected to impact several regions across Saudi Arabia. These adverse weather conditions are anticipated to affect Al-Jawf, Tabuk, the Northern Border, Hail, Qassim, northern parts of Al-Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions. Accompanying these thunderstorms, dust-stirring winds are also expected, leading to reduced visibility and challenging travel conditions.
In addition to the thunderstorms and wind, the NCM has also forecasted a drop in temperatures across the affected areas. This cold spell is set to bring light snowfall to the highlands of the Tabuk Region, specifically in Alqan, Al-Dhahr, and Allaoz mountains. This rare occurrence highlights the diverse climatic conditions that can be experienced within the Kingdom.

The weather phenomena are not limited to land. The Red Sea and Arabian Gulf are also expected to experience significant changes in conditions. In the Red Sea, winds will vary from northeasterly to northwesterly in the northern and central parts, with speeds ranging from 20 to 45 km/h. Towards the southern part, near Bab Al-Mandab Strait, winds will shift from southeasterly to southwesterly with speeds reaching up to 50 km/h. These conditions will lead to wave heights ranging from one to two and a half meters towards Bab Al-Mandab Strait, creating relatively choppy sea conditions.
Similarly, in the Arabian Gulf, winds will blow from northeasterly to northwesterly at speeds of 15 to 40 km/h in the northern and central parts. The southern part will see northwesterly to southwesterly winds at a speed of 10 to 30 km/h. Wave heights in these areas are expected to range from half a meter to one and a half meters in the northern and central parts, and from half a meter to one meter in the southern part. The sea state will be relatively calm in the northern and central parts of the Arabian Gulf and calm in the southern part.
This comprehensive weather forecast provided by the NCM underscores the dynamic weather patterns that can affect Saudi Arabia. Residents and visitors in the mentioned regions are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions during these adverse conditions.
The NCM continues to monitor these developments closely and provides timely updates to ensure public safety and awareness. As these weather conditions unfold, it is crucial for individuals in affected areas to heed any advisories or warnings issued by local authorities.
