Saudi Arabia Updates Drinking Water Standards For Health And Safety
Saudi Arabia's Ministry Environment, Water and Agriculture has revised guidelines for non-bottled drinking water in the Kingdom. This update aligns with the Water Law and its executive regulations, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Tuesday.
The new standards require water to be free from substances harmful to public health or the environment. These standards encompass various properties, including physical, inorganic, and organic chemicals. They also cover trace elements, heavy metals, organic compounds, and hydrocarbon properties.

The Ministry emphasised that these updates are consistent with leading global, regional, and Gulf standards. This includes those established by the World Health Organisation and the GCC Standardisation Organisation.
Additionally, specific criteria have been set for chemicals from water treatment and disinfection processes. The standards also address radioactive substances, radionuclides, and microbiological factors.
