Saudi Arabia To Reveal $2 Billion Aviation Sector Growth Plan At Future Forum

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) is set to introduce a pivotal initiative, the General Aviation Roadmap, at the forthcoming Future Aviation Forum 2024. Scheduled from May 20-22, this event is under the esteemed patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and carries the theme "Elevating Global Connectivity." This strategic roadmap is poised to catalyze a substantial growth in the general aviation sector, aiming for a tenfold increase in its contribution to the GDP, with aspirations to hit $2 billion by 2030.

The roadmap's scope covers the business aircraft sector, including private charter flights and corporate aviation. It is designed to bolster support for aircraft owners, investors, operators, and service providers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to cement the Kingdom's status as a premier destination for business and tourism. Reflecting this ambition, Saudi Arabia revised its national tourism target in October 2023, setting a new goal to attract 150 million visitors by 2030, an ambitious leap from the previous target of 100 million.

Saudi's $2Bn Aviation Growth Plan

GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej underscored the roadmap's significance in nurturing high-value economic segments such as tourism, business events, and entertainment. He elaborated on how the General Aviation Roadmap would facilitate sector growth through infrastructure enhancement, legislative improvements, and service quality upgrades. This announcement aligns with GACA's recent efforts to invigorate the general aviation sector by eliminating 'empty-leg' restrictions, simplifying economic licenses for air transport operations, and easing requirements for airport operators and investors.

The Future Aviation Forum is gearing up to be a global summit of significance, expected to draw over 5,000 aviation leaders from upwards of 100 countries. The forum will serve as a platform for ministers, manufacturers, airline representatives, and airport executives to make key announcements and forge agreements and deals. It will also feature dedicated discussions aimed at further understanding and developing this crucial industry segment.

This strategic move by GACA not only aims to boost the general aviation sector but also supports Saudi Arabia's broader economic diversification efforts. By enhancing global connectivity and fostering growth in tourism and business travel, the Kingdom continues to position itself as a hub for international commerce and leisure.
