Saudi Arabia Highlights Importance Of Global Collaboration At Eco Expo Asia 2024 In Hong Kong
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the guest of honour at Eco Expo Asia 2024 in Hong Kong, has highlighted its commitment to environmental protection. The Kingdom aims to achieve carbon neutrality, increase renewable energy use, and adopt a circular economy. Saleh Abdulmohsen Bindakhil, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, emphasised the importance of international collaboration in promoting green technologies.
Eco Expo Asia serves as a global platform where industry leaders gather to discuss environmental protection strategies. Bindakhil noted that Saudi Arabia is making continuous efforts to preserve the environment with strong support from its leadership. The Kingdom is actively involved in both national and international environmental initiatives.

The Saudi Green Initiative is a key project aiming to plant 10 billion trees within the country. This initiative will rehabilitate 40 million hectares and increase protected areas to 30%. Additionally, the Middle East Green Initiative plans to plant 50 billion trees across the region to combat climate change and improve quality of life.
Saudi Arabia is also committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 through adopting a circular carbon economy. These efforts are part of broader initiatives that include collaborating with G20 on reducing land degradation and enhancing conservation of terrestrial habitats.
As Saudi Arabia prepares to host COP16 in Riyadh this December, it sets ambitious goals for combating desertification. Bindakhil urged global participation in COP16 to accelerate land rehabilitation efforts and address drought challenges. "The Kingdom is setting ambitious environmental goals," he stated, calling for meaningful engagement at the conference.
Eco Expo Asia 2024 will take place from October 30 to November 2 in Hong Kong. It offers opportunities for business-to-government (B2G), business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-consumer (B2C) interactions within the green industry sector.
The Kingdom's participation underscores its dedication to leading global environmental efforts. By focusing on sustainable practices and international cooperation, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance its role in addressing pressing environmental issues worldwide.
