Saudi Arabia's Comprehensive Humanitarian Aid Strategy For Sahel And Lake Chad Region
Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Adviser at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, stressed Saudi Arabia's comprehensive strategy for crisis-hit areas in the Sahel and Lake Chad region. During a high-level session on humanitarian aid, he detailed the Kingdom's multifaceted approach, which has provided over $2.5 billion in assistance to this region alone.
The session titled "Discussion on Humanitarian Action to Meet the Needs of Refugees, Internally Displaced Persons, and Affected Populations in the Sahel and Lake Chad Region and Enhance Their Self-Reliance" was held alongside the Donors Conference in Jeddah. Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted KSrelief’s integrated aid approach, focusing on immediate relief and long-term resilience initiatives for displaced populations and host communities.

Saudi Arabia's strategic aid programs aim to help affected communities overcome challenges and achieve resilience and prosperity. Through partnerships with government, humanitarian, and development agencies, the Kingdom addresses needs across sectors like healthcare, infrastructure, and education.
Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized the crucial role of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) in infrastructure projects. One notable project is a major highway connecting eastern and western parts of a regional country at a cost of $38 million. This initiative highlights Saudi Arabia's commitment to building essential infrastructure in these regions.
Saudi universities offer over 2,155 full scholarships to students from the Sahel and Lake Chad regions. These scholarships cover tuition and living expenses, empowering students as future leaders and community builders. This educational support is part of Saudi Arabia's broader mission to foster self-reliance among affected populations.
Reflecting on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Al Rabeeah underscored the importance of coordinated global logistics in crisis responses. He pointed out Saudi Arabia’s efforts to localize vaccine production as part of its mission to improve global response readiness, especially in vulnerable regions like the Sahel and Lake Chad.

The Kingdom is advancing partnerships with multilateral organizations and donor countries to bridge funding gaps. These collaborations aim to ensure sustainable solutions and strategically plan humanitarian projects that address immediate needs while fostering long-term resilience.
