Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Highlights Global Challenges At The 79th UN General Assembly Session
Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered Saudi Arabia's address at the 79th United Nations General Assembly session. "We congratulate Philemon Yang on his election as president of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and express our gratitude to Dennis Francis for his leadership during the 78th session. We also thank UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for his unwavering dedication to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter."
The Kingdom's commitment to international law and peace is evident in its active participation in multilateral initiatives. As a founding member of the UN, Saudi Arabia has consistently upheld the principles of the UN Charter. The Kingdom played a significant role in drafting this week's Pact for the Future, viewing it as an opportunity to reaffirm shared values and promote sustainable development.

Saudi Arabia emphasises empowering international financial institutions to ensure economic recovery and mitigate risks. The Kingdom stresses adherence to UN Charter principles for long-term peaceful solutions that protect civilians and end conflicts. It rejects political polarisation, advocating dialogue and understanding among nations to enhance global security.
The Kingdom condemns Israeli actions against Palestinians, highlighting recent attacks on Gaza civilians. Since last year, Israeli actions have caused thousands of Palestinian deaths, mainly women and children. This humanitarian crisis worsens daily. Saudi Arabia hosted an extraordinary summit in Riyadh with Arab and Islamic leaders, calling for an end to bloodshed and aid delivery.
The summit resolutions urged restoring Palestinian lands and establishing an independent state. Saudi Arabia chaired a ministerial committee engaging countries to halt Israeli aggression. The Kingdom welcomed the UN resolution affirming Palestine's eligibility for full membership and praised countries recognising Palestine's statehood.
Saudi Arabia has provided over $5 billion in aid to Palestinians, including $185 million through KSrelief during Gaza's current crisis. Agreements worth over $106 million were signed with humanitarian organisations for critical aid projects. The Kingdom remains committed to supporting UNRWA's relief services for Palestinian refugees.
Regional Stability Efforts
The Kingdom supports Lebanon's stability by respecting its sovereignty under international law. It calls for a ceasefire in regional conflicts while urging parties to exercise restraint to avoid war dangers. Saudi Arabia resumed diplomatic ties with Iran based on mutual respect, aiming for regional security enhancement.
The Kingdom anticipates Iran's cooperation on its nuclear program while strengthening relations with Syria for regional stability. Saudi Arabia is committed to resolving Yemen's crisis through political solutions that restore security in Yemen and beyond.
Addressing Global Challenges
Saudi Arabia hosted Sudanese peace talks in Jeddah, emphasising a ceasefire need and humanitarian aid delivery. Efforts continue for further talks aimed at achieving these goals. The Kingdom stresses Afghanistan's security importance due to terrorist threats, urging prevention of humanitarian deterioration that could empower extremists.
The Kingdom calls for ending the Russia-Ukraine crisis through peaceful means while upholding international law. HRH Crown Prince has worked towards prisoner releases from various nationalities, demonstrating commitment to conflict resolution.
Vision 2030 Initiatives
Through Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia aims to empower future generations by fostering creativity and innovation while building global communication bridges. The development approach prioritises human rights and well-being, aiming at comprehensive growth benefiting all citizens.
The Kingdom is dedicated to balancing energy security with climate change mitigation efforts by ensuring stable oil markets while investing in low-emission energy solutions like carbon capture technology in Jubail Industrial City.
Sustainable Development Goals Commitment
Saudi Arabia commits $50 billion towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced at the Saudi-African Summit in Riyadh using circular carbon economy approaches like the Saudi Green Initiative or Middle East Green Initiative alongside renewable energy investments including clean hydrogen production ambitions globally leading exports thereof too!
The Kingdom supports wildlife protection projects conserving water resources hosting World Environment Day led by UNEP hosting COP16 combating desertification aligning Global Water Organization establishment announced last year unifying efforts addressing challenges comprehensively!
