Saudi Arabia And Spain Collaborate On New Naval Combat Vessels For Enhanced Maritime Security

The Saudi Ministry of Defense has entered into an executive agreement with Spain to construct three new Avante 2200 corvettes. This collaboration involves training, experience exchange, and technical and logistical support for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces. The initiative is part of the Sarawat project, which previously delivered five combat vessels.

Lt. Gen. Mohammed Al-Gharibi from the Royal Saudi Naval Forces and Spanish Admiral General Antonio Pineiro Sanchez signed the agreement at the Spanish Naval Staff headquarters. This partnership aims to strengthen ties between the two defense ministries, enhancing the capabilities of Saudi Arabia's naval forces by adding three more Avante 2200 corvettes.

The new corvettes will play a crucial role in boosting naval readiness to protect Saudi Arabia's interests and improve maritime security in the region. This aligns with the strategic objectives outlined in Vision 2030, a plan aimed at diversifying and strengthening the Kingdom's economy and infrastructure.

The agreement also includes comprehensive technical assistance from Spain during all construction phases. This support covers system inspections, testing, crew training, and operational procedures after delivery and commissioning for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.

The three additional vessels will match the technical and combat specifications of those delivered in the first phase of the Sarawat project. These ships are equipped with advanced combat and engineering systems designed to counter threats from air, surface, and subsurface sources effectively.

This collaboration not only enhances military capabilities but also fosters a deeper relationship between Saudi Arabia and Spain in defense matters. The ongoing partnership reflects a mutual commitment to regional stability and security through shared expertise and resources.

By expanding its naval fleet with these state-of-the-art corvettes, Saudi Arabia is taking significant steps towards ensuring its maritime borders are well-protected against potential threats. This initiative underscores the Kingdom's dedication to maintaining peace and security within its territorial waters.
