Major Upsets At Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters As Defending Champions Trump And Higgins Exit In Round Of 32
Tuesday evening's Round of 32 at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in Jeddah saw unexpected results. Organised by the Saudi Billiard and Snooker Federation with Matchroom and the World Snooker Tour (WST), the event is under the Ministry of Sport's supervision. Defending champion Judd Trump was eliminated after a 5-3 loss to fellow Englishman Oliver Lines.
Scottish four-time modern world champion John Higgins also faced an early exit. He lost 5-4 in a thrilling match against England’s Elliott Slessor. Meanwhile, Welsh world No. 3 Mark Williams advanced to the Round of 16 with a 5-3 win over China's Yuan Sijun.

Joining Williams in the next round is English snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan. He dominated his compatriot Joe O’Connor with a clean 5-0 sweep. Chinese world champion Zhao Xintong also impressed, securing a decisive 5-0 victory against England’s Steven Hallworth.
Zhao's performance was exceptional, reinforcing his strong bid for the title. The tournament continues today with Round of 16 matches, which will determine the quarterfinalists and heighten competition in this major global snooker event.
Reflecting on his unexpected defeat, Judd Trump expressed disappointment but acknowledged his opponent's deserving win. "I’m disappointed to lose and exit as the defending champion. Defeat is part of sport, but my opponent deserved the win," he stated.
Trump added that these experiences fuel his determination to reclaim the title in future competitions. "I wish him the best for the rest of the tournament, and I’ll come back more determined in future competitions," he said.
