The SME Monitor delves into various sectors of the Saudi economy, including an insightful look into Riyadh Expo 2030, the burgeoning gaming and Esports industry, and a focused analysis on SME growth within Riyadh and Diriyah. This latter area is undergoing a transformation by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to become a global nexus for culture, heritage, and tourism.

Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Authority, commented on the Kingdom's strategic advancements. He highlighted the nation's shift towards diversifying its economy beyond oil through visionary leadership and strategic policymaking. These efforts have been instrumental in fostering employment opportunities, opening new sectors, and empowering individuals.

The anticipation for Riyadh Expo 2030 is mounting, with $7.8 billion allocated to host the event. Expected to draw 40 million visitors to its 6-million square meter exhibition site, the Expo aligns with Vision 2030's objectives. The gaming and Esports sector is also spotlighted as one of Saudi Arabia's fastest-growing industries. With over 23.5 million enthusiasts in the Kingdom, it's poised to create over 30,000 jobs and contribute more than $13 billion to the GDP by 2030.

Riyadh's SME sector witnessed notable growth in Q4, driven by an increasing female labour force participation and contributing significantly to the GDP. The Regional Headquarters Program (RHP), which incentivizes multinational corporations to relocate to Riyadh, has seen over 500 multinationals move since its initiation on January 1, 2024.

Diriyah is being transformed into a cultural hub with new events and venues like JAX District and Diriyah Season attracting over a million visitors and generating 178,000 local jobs. The Diriyah Entrepreneurship Initiative (DEI), among other Monsha'at initiatives, has played a pivotal role in upskilling over 150 entrepreneurs and nearly 20 companies through entrepreneurial sessions and a 12-week accelerator program.

The report underscores the private sector's vital role in propelling Saudi Arabia's economy forward in Q4 2023. With more than 11 million individuals employed across various industries, the Kingdom's private sector showcases the resilience and dynamism of Saudi Arabia's economy, now exceeding $1 trillion.
