Malaysian Islamic Leaders Commend Saudi Arabia For Fostering Quran Study And Moderate Islam

A number of Islamic figures in Malaysia have commended Saudi Arabia's role under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. They praised the kingdom's efforts in supporting Muslims, encouraging Qur’an memorization among children, and promoting moderate Islamic teachings. This appreciation was expressed following the closing ceremony of the 16th National Itqan Competition for Memorizing the Holy Qur’an.

The competition, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, was held at the International Islamic University in Kuala Lumpur. The event honoured 54 male and female laureates out of 1,200 participants from various Malaysian states. The Religious Attaché office at the Saudi Embassy in Malaysia and the Proficiency Foundation for Teaching the Holy Qur’an in Malaysia collaborated to make this event successful.

Saudi's Role in Islam & Quran Praised

Interviewees highly valued Saudi Arabia's efforts to spread the Holy Qur’an and Islam's moderate concepts. They acknowledged the kingdom's encouragement of Qur’an memorizers, particularly among youth. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, led by Minister Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif Al Al-Sheikh, received special recognition for organizing this prestigious event.

Notable Figures' Statements

The Mufti of the State of Perlis, Dr. Muhammad Asri Zainal Abidin; Dr. Nashwan bin Abdo, founding director of the Itqan Education Foundation; and Abu Hafiz bin Salahuddin, a lecturer at the Islamic University of Malaysia, were among those interviewed. They expressed their gratitude towards Saudi Arabia for its continuous support and initiatives in promoting Islamic education and values.

Dr. Muhammad Asri Zainal Abidin highlighted the importance of such competitions in fostering a deeper understanding of the Qur’an among young Muslims. Dr. Nashwan bin Abdo emphasized the role of these events in strengthening ties between Muslim communities globally. Abu Hafiz bin Salahuddin noted that these initiatives help in nurturing future generations who are well-versed in Islamic teachings.
