Saudi Arabia Prepares Roads For Hajj Pilgrims With Extensive Maintenance

The Roads General Authority has officially declared its readiness to support pilgrims journeying through land ports for the Hajj, highlighting Saudi Arabia's commitment to facilitating a seamless pilgrimage experience. This announcement underscores the Kingdom's broader efforts to enhance services for those undertaking the sacred rituals of Hajj. A notable mention in the announcement was a World Bank report that positions Saudi Arabia's road network at the forefront globally for its connectivity.

In preparation for the influx of pilgrims, the Roads General Authority has undertaken comprehensive maintenance across more than 5,000 kilometres of roads leading to the holy sites. This initiative was complemented by inspections of over 9,000 kilometres of roads. The maintenance efforts included significant installations and repairs: more than 9,000 linear metres of concrete and metal barriers were erected, and over 700 kilometres of road striping were laid down. To further ensure the safety and guidance of pilgrims, more than 3,500 warning and guide signs were placed along these routes.

The scope of work extended beyond surface-level enhancements. Over 1,000 bridges underwent thorough inspections, and repairs were made to more than 1,000 linear metres of expansion joints. Additionally, road crews tackled natural obstacles by removing more than 400,000 cubic metres of sand dunes that posed potential disruptions to safe travel.

These extensive preparations are indicative of Saudi Arabia's ongoing projects aimed at bolstering the nation's road network.
