Saudi Arabia's First Road Safety Conference Highlights Innovations And Progress In Traffic Safety

Saudi Arabia has achieved significant advancements in road safety, as highlighted by the Roads General Authority (RGA). This progress is attributed to various initiatives executed in collaboration with the Ministerial Committee of Traffic Safety. These efforts have led to a notable decrease in road fatalities across the Kingdom.

The first Road Safety and Sustainability Conference, themed "Innovate for Tomorrow," was recently held in Saudi Arabia. Organised with the International Road Federation, this event underscored the dynamic improvements seen in the road sector. Key projects have focused on new maintenance strategies, enhanced safety protocols, and increased inspections.

Saudi Arabia Advances Road Safety Initiatives

Saudi Arabia's road sector has embraced advanced technologies, including drones and road marking thickness gauges. The RGA boasts the largest fleet of modern AI-equipped machinery globally, comprising 18 advanced pieces of equipment. These tools have improved automation, field team coordination, and asset management.

A shift to performance-based maintenance contracts has been one of RGA's successful initiatives. Approximately 60 contracts have been signed so far, significantly boosting road safety and network performance. This approach has contributed to raising the quality index of Saudi roads to 5.7.

The Kingdom ranks fourth among G20 countries for road safety standards, reflecting its dedication to high traffic safety benchmarks. This commitment enhances Saudi Arabia's international reputation while ensuring safer roads for its citizens.

The RGA remains committed to expanding road projects and maintenance efforts using cutting-edge technologies and equipment. Their strategy prioritises safety, quality, and managing traffic density effectively.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, RGA aims to elevate the roads quality index to sixth place globally by 2030. Additionally, they plan to reduce fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 residents within this timeframe.

The authority continues to focus on achieving strategic objectives where safety is a fundamental pillar. These efforts aim to provide safer and more sustainable roads while protecting lives across Saudi Arabia.
