Saudi Arabia's Road Safety Conference Showcases Innovations To Enhance Road Safety Standards

Saudi Arabia has seen a marked improvement in road safety, attributed to initiatives by the Roads General Authority (RGA) and the Ministerial Committee of Traffic Safety. These efforts have led to a notable decrease in road fatalities. The first Road Safety and Sustainability Conference, themed "Innovate for Tomorrow," highlighted these advancements.

The RGA has implemented significant projects to enhance road safety. These include adopting new maintenance methods, increasing inspections, and using advanced technology like drones and road marking thickness gauges. The authority boasts the world's largest fleet of AI-equipped machinery, with 18 advanced pieces of equipment.

Innovations in Saudi Arabia's Road Safety Efforts

Smart applications have improved automation and coordination among field teams. Asset management software and other modern tools have also contributed to better safety and maintenance. The transition to performance-based maintenance contracts is another key initiative, with around 60 contracts signed so far.

These efforts have significantly boosted the quality index of Saudi Arabia's road network to 5.7. This progress aligns with the strategic goals of the roads sector, where safety is a fundamental aspect. The Kingdom ranks fourth among G20 countries in road safety standards.

The RGA aims to further improve the roads quality index globally and reduce fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 residents by 2030. This commitment underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to providing safer roads and protecting its citizens.

The authority continues to focus on expanding road projects and maintenance while applying the latest technologies and equipment. This strategy prioritises safety, quality, and managing traffic density effectively.

Saudi Arabia's achievements in road safety reflect its commitment to international standards. By enhancing its status in traffic safety, the Kingdom ensures more sustainable roads for its users.
