Saudi Arabia Unveils Riyadh Declaration To Promote Inclusive And Impactful AI For Global Accessibility

The 19th session of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), organised by the United Nations, began today in Saudi Arabia. During this event, Saudi Arabia introduced the "Riyadh Declaration." This initiative aims to foster digital collaboration among governments, private sectors, non-profits, and innovators globally. The announcement was supported by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha highlighted the declaration's focus on artificial intelligence (AI). It underscores AI's potential to enhance digital access and knowledge while addressing global challenges. The declaration also stresses AI's role in boosting economic inclusion and promoting sustainable development. It aims to improve public health and protect the environment through increased digital accessibility and literacy.

Alswaha noted that under HRH the Crown Prince's leadership, Saudi Arabia has adopted a forward-thinking approach to AI. The Kingdom's Vision 2030 is committed to leading global transformation in this field. Alswaha stated that Saudi Arabia is dedicated to tackling challenges like unequal access to algorithms, data, and computing resources.

The Kingdom prioritises inclusivity in AI technology design and usage. It emphasises responsible data practices to harness data power for societal betterment. Efforts are underway to enhance AI algorithm fairness and reliability while minimising errors that could negatively impact individuals or societies.

The Riyadh Declaration highlights AI's potential to unleash global economic value.
