Saudi Arabia Engages In UNIDO Industrial Development Board To Promote Sustainable Industry

Saudi Arabia took part in the 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna, Austria. The Saudi delegation was led by Eng. Khalil bin Salamah, Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Industrial Affairs, along with Dr. Abdullah bin Tawlah, Saudi Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna.

During his speech to member states, Eng. Khalil bin Salamah reiterated Saudi Arabia's dedication to developing a competitive and sustainable industrial sector. He highlighted the Kingdom's strategic location, abundant natural resources, and advanced infrastructure as key assets. Emphasising international partnerships and public-private cooperation was deemed essential for achieving sustainable industrial growth.

Saudi Arabia at UNIDO Industrial Board Meeting

The UNIDO board addressed several strategic, programmatic, and financial matters during the session. Topics included the director-general’s annual report and plans for the 2026–2027 budget. Other discussions focused on cooperation with Africa, climate-neutral industry initiatives, circular economy strategies, and support for middle-income and least developed countries.

Future Conference in Riyadh

On the sidelines of the session, Saudi Arabia signed an agreement to host the 21st UNIDO general conference in Riyadh from November 23 to 27, 2025. This agreement underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to playing a significant role in global industrial development discussions.

The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources also organised a promotional event during this time. The event showcased Saudi Arabia’s preparations for hosting the conference and highlighted key programs aimed at supporting industrial transformation and innovation within the Kingdom.

The preparations for the upcoming 21st session of the UNIDO general conference were also reviewed during this meeting. This review is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that future conferences are well-organised and impactful.

The participation of senior officials from Saudi Arabia's industrial and mining sectors further demonstrated the Kingdom's commitment to advancing its industrial capabilities on an international stage.
