Saudi Arabia Participates In OIC Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Meeting In Qatar

Saudi Arabia recently took part in the second ministerial meeting for anti-corruption law enforcement agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states. This event was held in Doha, Qatar, on November 26 and 27. The meeting was organised by the OIC alongside Qatar's Administrative Control and Transparency Authority.

The Saudi delegation was led by Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, President of the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha). He expressed pride in Saudi Arabia hosting and presiding over the first meeting, which was under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This initial gathering resulted in adopting the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention for OIC member states on anti-corruption law enforcement.

Al-Kahmous emphasised that fighting corruption is a key aspect of Saudi Vision 2030. He acknowledged that corruption transcends borders and affects Islamic societies' progress. By uniting efforts locally and internationally, countries can combat this issue, leading to prosperity and sustainable development in Islamic nations.

He also mentioned a resolution from the 50th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Cameroon on August 29-30. This resolution urged member states to expedite their signing of the Makkah Convention, further strengthening anti-corruption measures across the region.

Saudi Arabia will host the permanent secretariat of the Regional Asset Recovery Network in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA-ARN). The Kingdom will also preside over this network in 2025. Al-Kahmous reiterated Saudi Arabia's dedication to achieving the network's goals and enhancing practical cooperation within the MENA region.

He described the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention as an ideal framework for boosting anti-corruption efforts and fostering international collaboration. This convention serves as a guide for OIC member states to strengthen their legal frameworks against corruption.

Saudi Arabia's commitment to combating corruption at both local and international levels is evident through its active participation in these initiatives. By addressing corruption comprehensively, it aims to contribute significantly to regional stability and growth.
