Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Support For Yemeni Government During UN Ministerial Meeting
The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) recently took part in an international ministerial meeting aimed at supporting the Yemeni government. This event coincided with a UN Security Council meeting and was co-chaired by Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak and British Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer.
Dr. Hala Alsaleh, SDRPY's Director of Developmental Programs, emphasized Saudi Arabia's dedication to aiding Yemen in various sectors. She pointed out that the Kingdom consistently strives to promote peace and stability in Yemen through comprehensive development initiatives spearheaded by the program.

Saudi Arabia has played a crucial role in supporting Yemen's economic recovery. The Kingdom has provided direct assistance to the Central Bank of Yemen, including grants and deposits to bolster cash reserves and improve domestic liquidity. Between 2012 and 2023, Saudi Arabia contributed $12 billion in financial support.
This financial aid has been instrumental in funding Yemen's budget, facilitating salary payments, and supplying oil derivatives to alleviate government spending pressures. Additionally, Saudi Arabia made deposits to stabilize the Yemeni riyal's exchange rate while introducing strategic projects to support economic reforms initiated by the Yemeni government.
SDRPY has implemented 263 development projects across 16 Yemeni governorates. These initiatives have improved connectivity between cities and rural areas, expanded educational opportunities, empowered universities and vocational institutes, enhanced healthcare services, promoted sustainable agriculture through renewable energy, fostered economic empowerment for women and youth, and strengthened resilience against climate change.
The Kingdom remains Yemen's largest historical supporter in economy, relief, and development sectors. Its involvement in the meeting encourages more international organizations to engage with development initiatives led by the Yemeni government.
Collaboration with Partners
SDRPY collaborates with over 40 local, Yemeni, regional, and international partners. This collaboration reflects trust in Saudi Arabia's leadership and its significant contributions to Yemen's development efforts. The program's participation underscores its commitment to fostering greater engagement from global entities in supporting Yemen's reconstruction.
Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts highlight its commitment to stabilizing Yemen through comprehensive support across various sectors. By participating in this international ministerial meeting, the Kingdom continues to demonstrate its dedication to fostering peace and stability in Yemen.
