Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Support For Yemeni Government At International Ministerial Meeting

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) recently took part in an international ministerial meeting aimed at supporting the Yemeni government. This gathering coincided with a UN Security Council meeting and was co-chaired by Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak and British Minister Hamish Falconer.

Dr. Hala Alsaleh, SDRPY's Director of Developmental Programs, emphasized Saudi Arabia's dedication to aiding Yemen across multiple sectors. She noted that the Kingdom is committed to fostering peace and stability in Yemen through comprehensive development initiatives spearheaded by the program.

Saudi Arabia Supports Yemeni Government Initiatives

Saudi Arabia has been instrumental in supporting Yemen's economic recovery. The Kingdom has provided direct assistance to the Central Bank, including grants and deposits, to bolster cash reserves and improve domestic liquidity. Between 2012 and 2023, Saudi Arabia contributed $12 billion in financial aid to Yemen.

This financial support has helped fund the budget, facilitate salary payments, and supply oil derivatives to alleviate government spending pressures. Additionally, deposits were made to stabilize the Yemeni riyal's exchange rate, alongside strategic projects aimed at supporting economic reforms initiated by the Yemeni government.

Saudi Arabia stands as Yemen's largest historical supporter in economic, relief, and development sectors. The Kingdom's involvement in the meeting encourages greater participation from international organizations in backing development initiatives led by the Yemeni government.

SDRPY collaborates with over 40 partners from local, Yemeni, regional, and international spheres. This collaboration reflects trust in Saudi leadership and its significant contributions to Yemen's development and reconstruction efforts.

Impactful Projects Across Yemen

To date, SDRPY has executed 263 development projects across 16 Yemeni governorates. These initiatives have enhanced connectivity between cities and rural areas, expanded educational opportunities, empowered universities and vocational institutes, improved healthcare services, promoted sustainable agriculture through renewable energy, fostered economic empowerment for women and youth, and strengthened resilience against climate change.

The Kingdom's ongoing commitment underscores its role as a key player in supporting Yemen’s journey towards stability and prosperity. By leading these efforts, Saudi Arabia continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for Yemen.
