Saudi Arabia Engages In GlobE Network Plenary Meeting To Combat Corruption In China

A Saudi delegation, led by Mazin Al-Kahmous, President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, is attending the GlobE Network Plenary Meeting in Beijing, China. This event runs from September 24 to 27. During his speech, Al-Kahmous thanked China for hosting this significant gathering. He highlighted the network's efforts to tackle evolving corruption crimes like money laundering and illicit virtual currency use.

Al-Kahmous emphasised Saudi Arabia's dedication to enhancing international cooperation against cross-border corruption crimes. He stressed the importance of pursuing corrupt individuals and tracing their illicitly obtained funds. The Kingdom supports the GlobE Network's mission and objectives. "The authority has benefited from the GlobE Network," he stated, noting its role in facilitating collaboration with similar agencies and sharing information on suspected corruption cases.

Saudi Arabia at GlobE Network Meeting in China

The GlobE Network was initiated by Saudi Arabia during the G20 Summit ministerial meeting it hosted in 2020. It gained official recognition by the UN at the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Egypt. UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised Saudi Arabia's contribution to establishing this network during his address at the first UN General Assembly special session against corruption in 2021.

Spain was chosen as chair of the network’s Steering Committee, with Saudi Arabia serving as vice chair. Over three years, 219 anti-corruption agencies and international organisations, along with more than 120 countries, have joined this initiative. This growth underscores its success and global reach.

Al-Kahmous expressed hope that all members of the network will unite their efforts to achieve its goals. The Kingdom remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance global anti-corruption measures. By fostering collaboration among member states, Saudi Arabia aims to strengthen mechanisms for tracking and prosecuting corrupt activities worldwide.

The plenary meeting provides a platform for discussing strategies to combat corruption effectively. It also facilitates sharing best practices among participating nations. The focus remains on addressing new challenges posed by technological advancements that criminals exploit for corrupt purposes.

The ongoing participation of Saudi Arabia in such international forums highlights its proactive stance against corruption. By engaging with global partners, the Kingdom seeks to contribute significantly to international efforts aimed at curbing corruption and promoting transparency across borders.
