Saudi Arabia's OIC Statement At UN General Assembly Highlights Counterterrorism Efforts And International Solidarity

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, spoke for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the UN General Assembly's Sixth Committee. He outlined the OIC's stance on terrorism and global security. Al-Wasel emphasized that terrorism is not linked to any religion or culture and condemned it in all forms.

Al-Wasel stressed respecting countries' sovereignty and territorial integrity. He advocated for a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy addressing root causes like occupation, poverty, and aggression. He also highlighted the need to differentiate between terrorism and peoples' legitimate resistance against occupation.

OIC Statement by Saudi Arabia at UN Assembly

The OIC's condemnation of Israeli occupation and its actions against Palestinians was reiterated by Al-Wasel. He also rejected US and Israeli strikes on Iran, affirming Iran's right to self-defense. The envoy expressed solidarity with Pakistan, condemning Indian strikes in Jammu and Kashmir, supporting Kashmiri self-determination per UN resolutions.

Al-Wasel highlighted the importance of enhancing the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. He addressed issues like Islamophobia and racism while praising the UN Counter-Terrorism Center's role. The call for completing the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism was reiterated, emphasizing distinguishing terrorism from legitimate struggles.

The Saudi envoy supported convening a high-level UN conference to tackle legal matters and boost international cooperation. This initiative aims to enhance global efforts in combating terrorism effectively.

The OIC remains committed to promoting peace and security worldwide through collaboration with international partners. By addressing underlying issues contributing to terrorism, they aim to foster a safer global environment.
