Saudi Arabia Introduces Fellowship Program For International Scholarship Students Promoting Moderation

The Fellowship of Moderation and Fairness program for scholarship students in Saudi Arabia was inaugurated by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh and Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan. The event took place at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs headquarters in Riyadh. This initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Saudi universities, and non-profit sector donor institutions.

Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh emphasised that the program showcases Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving Islam and Muslims. It aims to promote moderation based on strong principles and authentic traditions. The program combines scientific methodology with practical applications to train international students at Saudi universities as ambassadors of moderation in their communities.

Fellowship Program for Scholarship Students Launched

The fellowship offers an integrated training system that encourages cognitive and leadership excellence. It goes beyond traditional training methods, preparing graduates to tackle modern challenges and contribute to a cooperative future. President of King Abdulaziz University Dr. Tareef Al-Alaama noted that the program began this summer with support from the Endowment of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for His Parents.

Approximately 300 students from various nationalities applied for the fellowship, which is under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. After a thorough selection process, 60 participants from 40 countries were chosen. The program also reserves ten seats for exceptional students from Muslim minority communities worldwide, recognising their efforts in promoting moderation and combating extremism.

The General Authority of Awqaf, the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Foundation for Developmental Housing, and the Alrajhi Endowment have pledged nearly SAR 4 million to support this initiative. These contributions highlight the program's significant role in spreading values of moderation, aligning with the ministry's mission and directives from Saudi leadership.

Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh stated that this fellowship represents an advanced training system designed to equip graduates with skills necessary for addressing contemporary issues effectively. He added that it fosters a spirit of cooperation among participants while preparing them for a prosperous future.

This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to fostering moderation through education and training. By equipping students with essential skills, it aims to create ambassadors who can promote peace within their communities globally.
