Saudi Arabia Reports 656% Increase In Leisure Tourism For 2024 Amid Vision 2030 Success

The Ministry of Tourism has reported significant growth in Saudi Arabia's tourism sector, especially in leisure and holiday travel. This surge is largely attributed to the Kingdom's Vision 2030 initiatives. On World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, the ministry highlighted that from January to July 2024, Saudi Arabia welcomed 17.5 million international tourists. This marks a 10% rise compared to the same period in 2023 and a remarkable 73% increase from 2019 figures.

A notable achievement is the dramatic rise in tourists visiting for entertainment and holidays, with numbers soaring by 656%. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, 4.2 million tourists arrived for these purposes. This represents a 25% increase over the previous year and a substantial jump from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. These results underscore the success of Saudi Arabia's long-term tourism strategy under Vision 2030.

Saudi Arabia had set an ambitious target of attracting 100 million tourists by the year 2030. Remarkably, this goal was reached in 2023, seven years ahead of schedule. The Kingdom's rapid progress has been recognized globally, with Saudi Arabia being named the fastest-growing G20 country in tourism according to the latest UN World Tourism Barometer report.
