Saudi Arabia And Lebanon Emphasise Taif Agreement And Strengthen Regional Coordination In Joint Statement
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Lebanon have underscored the significance of bolstering Arab cooperation and aligning positions on pivotal regional and international matters. This was highlighted during Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's visit to Saudi Arabia, where both nations emphasised the need for full implementation of the Taif Agreement and relevant international resolutions. They also stressed the importance of extending state sovereignty across all Lebanese territories.
President Aoun's visit was at the invitation of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. During this visit, President Aoun conveyed greetings from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, wishing prosperity for Lebanon. In return, President Aoun extended his best wishes to King Salman for continued health and well-being.

The discussions between the two leaders focused on enhancing bilateral relations across various fields. They reiterated that Lebanon is an integral part of the Arab ecosystem, with its Arab ties being crucial for its security and stability. Both sides exchanged views on current regional and international situations, highlighting the importance of coordinated Arab action.
Both countries agreed to assess challenges affecting Lebanese exports to Saudi Arabia and explore measures to facilitate travel for Saudi citizens to Lebanon. They emphasised adherence to principles outlined in President Aoun's presidential oath speech, which envisions Lebanon's stability through comprehensive reforms.
The joint statement reaffirmed support for Lebanon's sovereignty over its territories and stressed that arms should be confined to the state. The critical role of the Lebanese army was highlighted, with calls for its support. Additionally, they urged the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from all Lebanese territories.
Recognising Lebanon's economic crisis, both sides acknowledged the urgent need for economic recovery through internationally required reforms based on transparency and law enforcement. These steps are seen as essential for overcoming current challenges.
Invitation Extended
At the conclusion of his visit, President Aoun expressed gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their warm hospitality. The Crown Prince wished President Aoun good health and happiness while hoping for progress in Lebanon. President Aoun invited the Crown Prince to visit Lebanon, which was warmly received by His Royal Highness.
