Saudi Arabia's ALLaM Sets Benchmark For Arabic AI Language Models Globally
The director of the National Information Center at the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), Dr. Esam bin Abdullah Al-Wagait, announced the integration of the Arabic language model (ALLaM) into IBM's watsonx platform. This announcement was made during the IBM Think 2024 conference, where Dr. Al-Wagait highlighted ALLaM as one of the best generative artificial intelligence (AI) models for the Arabic language globally.
Dr. Al-Wagait praised the technical capabilities of IBM's watsonx platform, which include enabling large language models, simplifying machine learning processes, and enhancing AI governance and compliance. He also noted the flexibility of hybrid cloud deployment offered by the platform. The integration of ALLaM aims to serve both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Arabic speakers worldwide.

Dr. Al-Wagait acknowledged the support of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, in advancing AI technologies. He emphasized that SDAIA is committed to maximizing the benefits of AI technologies, with ALLaM being a prominent generative AI language model focused on Arabic.
Training and Data Quality
The success of large language models like ALLaM relies on extensive training on high-quality datasets. Dr. Al-Wagait revealed that ALLaM has been trained on over 500 billion Arabic linguistic units. SDAIA plans to continue expanding this dataset and improving model accuracy, reaffirming its commitment to making ALLaM a leading generative AI model for the Arabic language.
Invitation to Global AI Summit
Dr. Al-Wagait concluded his remarks by inviting participants of the IBM Think 2024 conference to attend the third annual Global AI Summit (GAIN). Organized by SDAIA, GAIN will be held in Riyadh from September 10 to 12. The summit will bring together policymakers, thought leaders, innovators, and major investors in AI to explore new opportunities for effective partnerships.
The integration of ALLaM into IBM's watsonx platform marks a significant step for SDAIA in enhancing its global position in AI. With ongoing support from Saudi leadership and a focus on high-quality data, SDAIA aims to continue advancing AI technologies for Arabic speakers worldwide.
