Saudi Arabia's Dr. Al-Rabeeah Advocates For Rights Of Children With Disabilities And Conjoined Twins
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, an advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, highlighted Saudi Arabia's leadership in promoting the rights of children with disabilities. Through KSrelief, the Kingdom has become a global advocate for these children and conjoined twins. He called for renewed efforts to ensure their access to healthcare, education, and social support.
During a session in New York, held in collaboration with UNICEF for World Conjoined Twins Day, Dr. Al-Rabeeah discussed the complexities of conjoined twins. He explained that this rare condition arises from incomplete fetal separation and requires specialized medical care. The event was attended by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah emphasized the importance of early prenatal diagnosis and potential surgical separation for conjoined twins. He noted that treatment plans should be individualized while considering cultural and ethical factors. A multidisciplinary medical team is essential for managing these cases effectively.
Surgical separation, when possible, is supported by advanced imaging technologies like 3D printing and medical simulation. Non-surgical approaches focus on supportive care and rehabilitation. Treatment decisions depend on factors such as the type of conjoining, shared organs, urgency of medical need, available expertise, and family values.
The long-term medical, psychological, and social needs of conjoined twins vary based on shared organs' nature and case complexity. Dr. Al-Rabeeah stressed that international cooperation is crucial in raising awareness and improving education about these conditions.
He also highlighted the importance of integrating conjoined twins and children with disabilities into their communities while safeguarding their dignity and rights. This cooperation can significantly enhance awareness and promote inclusion.
Dr. Al-Rabeeah's remarks underscore Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting children with disabilities globally through KSrelief's initiatives. The Kingdom continues to advocate for their rights and inclusion in society.
