Saudi Arabia Champions Economic Diversification At AfDB 2024 Meetings

Saudi Arabia's Governor at the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Ryadh Alkhareif, led the Kingdom's delegation to the 59th Annual Meeting of the AfDB Board of Governors and the 50th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund. The meetings took place from May 27-31, 2024, in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya.

The President of Kenya, William Ruto, inaugurated the meetings. Attendees included African leaders, finance ministers, central bank governors from member nations, and representatives from bilateral and multilateral development agencies, academia, non-profit organizations, civil society, and the private sector.

The meetings addressed several critical issues for Africa and the global economy. Key topics included efforts to diversify Africa's economy, develop global financial structures, and create investment opportunities to promote development. Additionally, discussions focused on tackling climate change and food insecurity.

During the meetings, Dr. Alkhareif emphasized Saudi Arabia's support for African nations through bilateral efforts and regional and international organizations like the AfDB. He highlighted various initiatives by Saudi Arabia aimed at promoting investments in human capital and youth empowerment.

Dr. Alkhareif also discussed Saudi Arabia's efforts to address climate change through initiatives such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative. He mentioned a significant initiative announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to finance development projects in Africa with $5 billion by 2030.

The AfDB annual meetings offer a platform for AfDB governors to exchange knowledge and discuss challenges related to private financing and sustainable development investments in Africa. These discussions are crucial for fostering collaboration and identifying solutions to pressing issues facing the continent.
