Saudi Arabia Advocates For Global Water Sustainability At World Forum

The Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, addressed the 10th World Water Forum, highlighting the significant challenges threatening water sustainability. He pointed out that economic growth and climate change are major contributors to the excessive use of water resources. This speech was delivered as he led the Saudi delegation on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in Indonesia from May 18 to 25.

Minister Al-Fadley stressed the importance of international cooperation to safeguard water resources. He noted that Saudi Arabia has placed water issues high on the international agenda. As a G20 member, the Kingdom actively supports water-related initiatives. For instance, Saudi Arabia launched the G20 Water Platform to foster international cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise in the water sector.

Saudi Leads Water Sustainability Push

In his speech, Al-Fadley also mentioned the Kingdom's establishment of the Global Water Organization. This initiative aims to unite global efforts to tackle challenges threatening water security. The Kingdom is committed to participating in meetings and activities focused on water issues and hosting forums dedicated to water security and sustainability.

Upcoming Events

The Minister announced that Saudi Arabia will host the sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) next December. Additionally, Riyadh will host the 11th World Water Forum in 2027 under the theme "Working for a Better Tomorrow," aligning with Vision 2030's objectives for addressing water issues.

Minister Al-Fadley's address underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to addressing global water challenges through international collaboration and strategic initiatives.
