Saudi Arabia Debuts New Smart City Technologies At Global AI Summit
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing unveiled its latest digital services at the third Global AI Summit (GAIN Summit) in Riyadh, held from September 10 to 12, 2024. These innovations include the Smart Assistant Service and the Smart City Management Platform (Madinaty), both leveraging generative artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies.
Accessible through the "Balady" Application and the ministry's website, the Smart Assistant Service aims to streamline communication with customers. This service offers an intelligent experience, allowing users to receive instant answers to their inquiries using generative artificial intelligence technologies. It provides clear and direct responses about the ministry's services, regulations, and related requirements around the clock without human intervention.

The Smart City Management Platform (Madinaty) was also introduced at the summit. This platform is designed as a comprehensive centralized system for managing smart solutions for environmental sanitation and cleanliness within cities. It covers all stages from waste sources and construction and demolition waste to organizing waste transport and disposal in designated landfills.
Utilizing IoT (Internet of Things) technologies, Madinaty enables monitoring of cleaning operations and tracking vehicles during transportation routes. This enhances the efficiency of smart municipalities in their operational work for cities. The platform aims to improve environmental sanitation by providing a more organized approach to waste management.
These new digital services align with the ministry's efforts to enhance digital transformation, promote smart municipality initiatives, and provide quality services to various sectors and individuals within Saudi Arabia's cities. By integrating advanced technologies, the ministry seeks to offer innovative solutions that cater to modern urban needs.
The introduction of these services reflects a significant step towards achieving a smarter city infrastructure. The Smart Assistant Service ensures that customer inquiries are handled efficiently, while Madinaty focuses on maintaining cleanliness through effective waste management strategies.
Overall, these initiatives demonstrate the ministry's commitment to leveraging technology for better urban management. The focus on generative AI and IoT technologies highlights a forward-thinking approach aimed at improving city living standards across Saudi Arabia.
