Saudi Arabia Sets Up Environmental Academy And Grants To Foster Eco-Innovation

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has launched the National Academy of the Environment in collaboration with national and international partners to enhance human capabilities. Additionally, the Environmental Grants & Incentives Program was announced to boost investment opportunities by supporting small and medium enterprises, companies, research centres, universities, and the non-profit sector.

This announcement came during Saudi Arabia's celebration of World Environment Day 2024 in Riyadh yesterday under the theme "Our Land, Our Future", highlighting the vital importance of land as a fundamental pillar of life on Earth. Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley stated that the launch of the National Academy of the Environment integrates with the Saudi Center for International Strategic Partnerships at the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation.

This initiative aims to develop human capabilities by investing in local talents and aligning educational outcomes with labour market needs. The program also seeks to foster a culture of innovation and environmental entrepreneurship. Al-Fadley emphasized that the Environmental Grants & Incentives Program by the Environment Fund aims to promote eco-friendly practices in Saudi Arabia.

The program supports research and innovation, encourages investment in the environment and meteorology sectors, and enhances environmental commitment across various development sectors. It provides incentives and grants to small and medium enterprises, companies, research centres, universities, the non-profit sector, and other stakeholders.

Over 4,000 environmental activities worldwide marked this year's World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June making it one of the biggest international days for the environment. Led by UNEP and held annually since 1973, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world participating to protect the planet.
