Saudi Arabia Launches First Arab Week At UNESCO To Celebrate Rich Cultural Heritage

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently launched the inaugural Arab Week at UNESCO in Paris. This event was organised by the Arab Group at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It saw participation from permanent Arab representatives, ambassadors, and diplomats from France, along with UNESCO officials. The initiative is a first for the Arab world in over 50 years.

Jordanian Ambassador to France, Leena Al-Hadid, who chairs the Arab Group at UNESCO, officially opened the event. Al-Hadid highlighted that this occasion serves as a platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world. She noted its significant contributions to fields like science, philosophy, literature, and arts over centuries.

Arab Week Inaugurated at UNESCO by Saudi Arabia

The event features 22 booths representing various Arab countries. These booths display cultural heritage, history, and elements of civilizations. They engage visitors and foster cultural connections among organisers and attendees worldwide. This interaction aims to enhance understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures.

Al-Hadid expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for initiating this event and acknowledged Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan's support. The initiative has drawn substantial cultural participation from numerous nations, highlighting its importance in promoting Arab culture globally.

Throughout Arab Week at UNESCO, seven seminars are being held on topics such as language, calligraphy, Arabic literature, artificial intelligence, education and fine arts. These seminars also cover intangible cultural heritage and world heritage. They aim to delve into ambitious ideas rooted in deep research tied to centuries-long Arab experiences.

The seminars have attracted academic institutions along with experts and specialists from education, culture, and science fields. The focus is on exploring innovative concepts based on extensive research connected to the rich heritage of the region.

This unique event not only highlights the historical significance of Arab contributions but also strengthens cultural ties among nations. By bringing together diverse participants from around the globe, it fosters mutual understanding and appreciation for shared human heritage.
