Research To Market Innovation Accelerator Bootcamp Empowers Saudi Universities To Scale Tech
The King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology has launched the first phase of the Research-to-Market Innovation Accelerator Program, aiming to move research outcomes into the marketplace. The initiative targets national researchers and innovators and supports Saudi Vision 2030 by turning scientific work into commercially viable products.
The program is organised in partnership with the Research, Development and Innovation Authority and Community Jameel Saudi, with support from Academy 32 and The Garage. Fifteen research teams from universities across Saudi Arabia were chosen from more than 200 applications submitted from different regions.

The first phase starts with a four-day bootcamp that concentrates on practical skills. Participants learn how to analyse markets, design business models, and manage finances for innovation-focused projects. The sessions help research teams understand how to translate scientific results into products that can scale in competitive sectors.
Workshops and training modules during the bootcamp also introduce technology transfer processes that move solutions from laboratories into commercial settings. This support is designed to help teams establish deep-tech startups, building companies around complex technologies in fields such as health, energy, environment, industry, and emerging economic sectors.
After the bootcamp ends, the Research-to-Market Innovation Accelerator Program shifts into a second phase lasting four months. During this period, the same teams receive intensive mentoring, meeting with experienced advisors who guide them on product development, commercial strategy, and investment readiness.
Each research team is expected to interact with more than 40 potential customers during the second phase. These meetings are used to test market assumptions, study customer needs, and confirm whether the proposed solutions match real demand. This validation process helps refine projects into propositions that investors can evaluate more confidently.
Research-to-Market Innovation Accelerator Program outcomes and national impact
At the end of the Research-to-Market Innovation Accelerator Program, three leading research projects will be selected. These will join the Jameel Initiative for Deep Tech, giving the chosen teams additional support, wider opportunities for growth, and better access to networks that can help expand operations.
KACST positions the Research-to-Market Innovation Accelerator Program as part of a wider national innovation effort. The programme aims to align research with priority areas such as human health, environmental sustainability and essential needs, leadership in energy and industry, and future economies, while creating skilled jobs and supporting the Kingdom’s global competitiveness.
