Saudi Arabia Urges Worshippers To Wear Face Masks At Two Holy Mosques
As the Holy Month of Ramadan unfolds, Saudi authorities have issued a health advisory for worshippers planning to visit Islam's two holiest mosques, urging them to wear facemasks. The move aims to ensure safety and well-being of worshippers. The directive, aimed at safeguarding against infectious diseases, comes at a time when the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina are expected to witness an influx of faithful performing Umrah and engaging in nightly Taraweeh prayers.
Ensuring A Smooth And Safe Umrah Experience
The Public Security Directorate of the Kingdom, via an X post, highlighted the importance of wearing masks within these sacred precincts and their courtyards. This precautionary measure is part of a broader range of initiatives designed to facilitate a smooth and comfortable worship experience for the multitude of pilgrims visiting during Ramadan. In anticipation of the increased footfall, Saudi authorities have taken several steps to manage the crowd effectively and maintain a serene environment for prayer and reflection.
Specific arrangements include the designation of the courtyard and ground floor of the Grand Mosque for Umrah pilgrims, alongside the allocation of certain gates for their exclusive entry and exit. This strategic move aims to prevent overcrowding and ensure that the spiritual journey of each visitor remains undisturbed. Furthermore, to ease traffic congestion and facilitate smoother access, buses transporting worshippers will be directed to park in designated areas, away from the immediate vicinity of the mosque.
Preparedness At The Prophet's Mosque
After fulfilling their Umrah in Mecca, many devotees embark on a journey to Medina to offer prayers at the Prophet's Mosque, Islam’s second most sacred site. Authorities responsible for managing the Prophet's Mosque have affirmed their readiness to accommodate and serve the large numbers of worshippers expected during Ramadan. In a significant gesture of hospitality and community support, more than 8.5 million Iftar meals are set to be distributed to break the fast, alongside 2.5 million bottles of the revered Zamzam water throughout the lunar month, a period marked by heightened spiritual devotion.
This comprehensive approach, emphasising both spiritual fulfillment and health safety, reflects the kingdom's commitment to preserving the sanctity of the Ramadan experience at Islam's most revered sites.
